Strengths: The Wii was the first console to introduce motion controls, and has been on the market for several years already. Oh boy, it's time for high school again! But why just stop at the motion controllers themselves? I've seen too many at school T_T (I hope none of those fellow students ever become my manager or anything) Now you can clearly see that they don't market that at all, because it's not that what gave them success.īut man. What also is quite interesting is that Nintendo tried to focus at both casuals as cores at first, promoting backward compatibility along with the VC (all games in the past).

For example, because the console has to be family oriented, Nintendo considered small console size and a familiar controller (resembling a TV remote) was important.

Developers avoiding console because of familiarness. Strategy possible to be copied by competition Strategy impossible to be copied in short-term by competition Strategy unfamiliar for existing developers I also never seen anyone write facts like "50 million owners" into their SWOTs. With such a shallow view on all 4 points then only bad strategies will come out of it (short term, red ocean strategies). The point of SWOTs is to form strategies out of them. I see plenty of average business-men (students) in my college, don't want to see it here as well D: OMG, if you're gonna make SWOTs then do it right OP. Whilst Natals uniqueness could make it stand out from the crowd and allow for huge sales as Nintendo and Sony split the audience, it could also alienate gamers.

Sony is just building on top of this developers know what they can get out of it with the added advantage of the better PS3 hardware and the public know what to expect from it (and based on Nintendo's sales, they like it). Threat: Nintendo's motion control is hugely successful. To have unique games that no other system could have, and not just motion ports. If it works as advertised, the 360 is going to be the only place to play with such a thing, whereas Sony and Nintendo's tech is competing in a very direct way.

Opportunity: To stand out as something different. The 360 caters to hardcore gamers and a lot of hardcore gamers have no interesting in using anything but a controller. Probably going to be more expensive than Sony's wand. If it doesn't take off, it's going to be left behind with Sony and Nintendo having very similar tried and tested motion controls. Weakness: Potential for truly controller-less games is limited. Can be used with any kind of controller - nothing at all but the body, standard 360 controller, Guitar hero guitar. Developer support appears to be high, and it shouldn't just be packed with Wii ports in HD. Could result in many unique, and possibly ground-breaking games if the tech lives up to it's promise. Strength: Completely unique technology to this generation. Threat: PS3 wand and Natal could steal wii's thunder wii best sport games, such as Tiger Woods or Grand Slam Tennis could prove to be better on PS3 with better precision/graphics Natal could become the new big thing for the casual market Opportunity: wii adoption can be increased by several new price drops Wii's library could benefit from the development of more games using controls for other platforms vitality sensor may become a new wiiboard and provide new gaming experiences Nintendo could release its own camera to take its shares on this emergent market Weakness: 3rd party blockbuster games severely limited by wii technology 3rd party A teams not supporting the Wii recalibration is needed with Motion+ IR technology has problems with bright rooms Strength: motion technology already in the hands of +50 million consumers wiimote/nunchuck is a very versatile combo, completed by a board that adds a balance layer great ergonomy, convenient IR and analog control combo good experience of wii's motion middleware games covering every segments of the market near 1:1 precision with Motion+ Nintendo's next Zelda blockbuster developped around Motion+ Wii brand associated with motion controls

I will update the OP with your inputs from this thread.

The idea here is to create SWOTs for Natal, PS Wand and Wii Motion suite. Stainless Games / Powerhouse Animation Studios, Inc.I'm sure many of you have taken marketing lessons, and a SWOT analysis is a fun way to get a big picture of a business. You can help by adding missing items with reliable sources. This is a dynamic list and may never be able to satisfy particular standards for completeness.
